On October 9, 2015, it is World Post Day. The day marks the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union’s establishment. The union’s goal was to have a free flow of international mail all over the world.
On this day, some organizations organize speeches on the history and accomplishments of international postal service. Postal services may provide special postage stamps in remembrance of this day. Some schools may arrange special lessons for children about postal service for education purposes.
UNESCO and Universal Postal Union, already for 35 years, are organizing the international letter-writing competition for the youth. Those postal services involved in this competition use World Postal Day to award prizes to the winners of the competition.
