Mahir Zeynalov

Mahir Zeynalov is a Turkish journalist based in Washington D.C. He started his journalism career at the Los Angeles Times. Zeynalov is also a columnist with Al-Arabiya and writing for the Huffington Post.

Foreign Policy magazine twice selected him among “100 People to Follow” on foreign policy in the world while the New York Times recognized Zeynalov among three Turkish journalists who kept reporting on corruption despite government’s intimidation and prosecution.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pressed charges against Zeynalov for his corruption reporting and he was deported last year.

Zeynalov is a regular commentator on the world’s leading news outlets, including ABC, BBC and Guardian, and his views were published by media outlets such New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Reuters. Zeynalov has the biggest number of followers (more than 101,000) among Turks tweeting only in English.
