Black History Month 2014 – Missouri

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

As part of Black History Month celebrations, Niagara Foundation organized a panel on the theme of “Important Issues of the 21st Century” The event started with the welcoming remarks by St Louis County Executive Director Charlie Dooley.

County Executive thanked the members of Niagara Foundation for their efforts in St Louis to promote dialogue, mutual understanding, and awareness about different cultures. The panel started with speech by Professor Kimberley Norwood. Professor Norwood talked about her recent book, “Color Matters” and pointed the importance of education. She also stated that her travel with Niagara Foundation to Turkey was an eye opening experience for her. The President of Vantage Credit Union, Hubert Hoosman was the second speaker. Since he represented business world, he talked about the struggles in business world and how we all find better solutions for our struggles.

At the end of the event, Ali Durhan, Executive Director of Niagara Foundation – Missouri thanked everyone and stated that the venues like this are so important to start direct connections, meet people face to face, and learn from one another.
