Challenges of Rough Times: Acknowledging Ohio’s Diverse Community

Event Description:

In order to acknowledge diversity of our state, SEF organized a reception at the Ohio Statehouse entitled “Challenges of Rough Times: Acknowledging Ohio’s Diverse Community”. Needless to say, as a society we go through one of the hardest times of history. Under the pressure of recession, health care problems and conflicts of various sorts, people need a relief. We believe that this relief comes from sticking to the ideals this country has been a proud supporter of for a long time. These ideals are also a standard for everyone living in this globe; they are democracy, respect for diversity and human rights.

Representative Kathleen Chandler, Marian Harris and Vernon Sykes expressed their thoughts on the issue. Rev. Melvin Richardson also gave a short speech on the value of diversity and community initiatives in overcoming the problems we are facing today.

As an organization committed to dialogue and education SEF organized this reception in order to create a friendly environment for valued legislators to exchange ideas with the members of Ohio community. As SEF we would like to thank everyone who made this event possible.
