World Maritime Day was created by the International Maritime Organization to focus attention on the importance of shipping safety, maritime security and the marine environment. The maritime industry is a global entity that interconnects trade via the world’s oceans. These professional mariners sail ships and transport life-essential cargos to countless nations.
The world depends on an efficient shipping industry and in order to maintain that efficiency shipping must be safe and secure, that’s why this year’s World Maritime Day theme is emphasizing maritime education and training standards within the sector. World Maritime Day occurs every year on September 24.
