Happy International Women’s Day!

By: Kathy Bolano, Communications Intern

March 8th is celebrated worldwide as International Women’s Day, commemorating the “economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.” The first International Women’s Day was in 1911 and has continued over the last century with thousands of events marking the achievements of women.

Each year there is a new theme and in 2015, it is Make it Happen. This campaign pushes for people to find a way to encourage effective action for advancing and recognizing women. The United Nations also created the theme “Empowering Women- Empowering Humanity: Picture It!” that uses the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action as a means to set the agenda to bring women’s rights to fruition.

Niagara Foundation supports these organizations in their efforts for equal rights and encourage you to start a conversation, or join in and make a difference.
