World Suicide Prevention Day is annually observed on September 10. This year, the theme of the day is to encourage people and organizations to consider the offering support and its role in preventing suicide.
The day attempts to make a positive impact on our mental health and safety. It raises awareness about support and services around the world that are accessible for those who are touched by suicide and for those who try to create a strong community of suicide prevention. The idea is to reach out to people and save lives.
World Suicide Prevention Day also encourages individuals to talk to people and ask questions. As well as, supporting them and listening to their struggles in a non-judgmental way. This could be a game-changer for those who are vulnerable to suicide.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) report, each year, over 800,000 people commit suicide across the world. This number could be even larger as there is a lack of reliable death recording procedures, because of religious or legal sanctions against suicide in some countries that are associating suicide with shame.
