Sharing the Faith: Easter 2015 Programs

Sharing the Faith is an educational program offering opportunities for the larger Chicago community to learn about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam during their respective sacred seasons.   By collaborating with local parishes, congregations, and communities, Niagara will create programs that are both nourishing for the respective community and for a larger interfaith  audience.   Our goal: to raise literacy of each of the Abrahamic faiths, create safe spaces/experiences for reflection, and respectfully showcase each tradition in its unique Chicago flavor.

Christians worldwide are celebrating the season of Easter. We want to explore this season’s meaning by hearing about its history, narratives, and spiritual themes as presented through voices from Northeast Illinois’ diverse Christian traditions. The best way to learn is to go straight to the source!

PROGRAMS

Stations of the Cross – Presented by Niagara Foundation and Willow Chicago

Niagara Foundation and Willow Creek Chicago present:  The Way of the Cross,  a self-guided interactive event representing the events leading up to Jesus’s death on the cross. Join us as we dive into the richness of the Evangelical tradition as presented through the community Willow Chicago.

What better way to learn about the Christian tradition than through this reflection on the person of Jesus?  The program runs all-day on Good Friday, April 3, from 11:00 AM to 8:00PM.  However, at 11:30AM Willow leadership will personally guide a group through the various stations, or scenes, recounting the final hour of Jesus’ life as outlined in the New Testament.

This is a great opportunity to ask questions and to learn a bit more about a particular form of Christian memorializing of Jesus.  Individuals, couples, and families are invited to participate.  All faiths are strongly encouraged to attend.

If you have difficulties registering for this event, please contact BETH PERES, Program Director for the center for Interfaith Engagement, via email to [email protected] or phone 312-240-0707 Ext. 110.

Palm Sunday – Presented by Niagara Foundation with Fourth Presbyterian

Our religious identities are folded into our religious rituals.  For Christians, the Palm Sunday worship service is an important celebratory ceremony retelling the story of Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem before his death and is the first day for what Christians call, “Holy Week.”

Are you interested in learning more about the history of this commemoration, its beautiful imagery, symbols, and theology?  Then consider joining members of Fourth Presbyterian Church on Palm Sunday, March 29th, as they guide you through this important day for their community. We will provide information sessions before and after the worship service for preparation and to ask questions. Space is limited.

If you have difficulties registering for this event, please contact BETH PERES, Program Director for the center for Interfaith Engagement, via email to [email protected] or phone 312-240-0707 Ext. 110.
