On this day, the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, also known as the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, is a national holiday to commemorate both saints for their sufferings. It is celebrated annually among all Christians from around the world.

As early as the first century, June 29th was marked as a day to honor both saints for their attributions to Jesus Christ. Both saints were apostles to Jesus Christ, and today they’re both known for being the founders of Christianity. Saint Peter was the first apostle and the leader of Jesus Christ’s disciples. He was also known to be the first pope of the Catholic church. Saint Paul taught the gospel of Christ after he was converted to Christianity, and founded several churches during his time.

The feast is primarily recognized in Rome because both saints are patrons of the eternal city. It is a reminder of the apostles’ religious dedication to the unity of the church. Saint Peter was the first bishop to Rome, highlighting it as a major significance today.

The Niagara Foundation would like to acknowledge the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul on this holy day!
