He is a Turkish journalist based in Washington D.C. Zeynalov started as a journalist at the Los Angeles Times, and is also a columnist with Al-Arabiya and writes for the Huffington Post. Foreign Policy twice selected him among “100 People to Follow” on foreign policy in the world while The New York Times recognized Zeynalov for reporting on corruption despite government intimidation and prosecution. Zeynalov is a regular commentator on the world’s leading news outlets, including ABC, BBC and The Guardian and is published in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Reuters.
He is an independent consultant and lecturer. He has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Arts in International Relations from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. From 1985 to 1991 Shapiro was a U.S. Army Infantry officer in the Reconnaissance Unit. He was an operations manager at the international logistics companies Hashin Air Cargo and Sinotrans from 1992 to 2001. Shapiro now consults public and private U.S. institutions regarding the Middle East and U.S. security concerns.
