Niagara Foundation vehemently condemns the violent actions and motives of Craig Steven Hicks, arrested this morning for three counts of first-degree murder after shooting three young people near University of North Carolina’s Chapel Hill campus yesterday evening.
The three victims, Deah Barakat, Yusor Mohammad and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, were all Muslim. Sources suspect that the shooting may have been an anti-Muslim hate crime, though the gunman’s motives are currently unconfirmed.
We at Niagara Foundation denounce the shooting and all motives behind it. The gunmen’s actions stand in direct opposition to the acceptance, peace and dialogue that we aim to foster. We believe in inclusiveness and developing peaceful relationships between people of all faiths and cultures, and condemn the viciousness of yesterday’s shooting.
We remember the victims of this atrocious crime and keep their family and friends in our thoughts. We stand in solidarity with Chapel Hill and all who fight hate and strive for unity.
